What an Excellent Idea

Time was when the left was well aware of the dangers of people seeking to use elected office for their own financial gain, and raised the demand that MPs should be paid no more than the average wage of their constituents.

No, truly. Inspired. So your average Labour MP, representing some chavvy gehtto would be paid the benefits rate while theTory sitting for The City and Westminster would be on £250 k a year.

  1. There is a certain logic to that. Half of the Labour MPs are virtually unemployable and are paid far too much. Conservative often take a pay cut to enter the commons (though their sons & wives might get a rise).

Hmm. And there I was thinking that Labour MPs were generally ex-lawyers and ex-journalists, whereas Tory MPs were generally failed used-car salesmen….

  3. The trully dreadful truth is that not all heartland Labour councils are actually welcoming to chavs relocating on local territory:

“Para 2.3 In the year 2003 Wakefield MDC had 71 separate incidents of unauthorised camping, 68% of these were on Local Authority owned land. On every occasion when Travellers moved onto council owned land Wakefield MDC offerred them alternate accommodation on the permanent travellers site. On every occasion this offer was made, it was declined.”
