DC Sure is Weird.

Talking about where to have lunch in Washington DC Ezra Klein offers this:

It\’s all vegan, but it\’s unreasonably delicious. Get the spicy chicken bowl,

Vegan chickens now? No wonder the entire governmental system based there is so screwy.

Naw, it’s just Klein being screwy. “He’s a frequent guest on MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews. ” And that kind of proves it.

  2. As anyone who has actually been around them will attest, the cognitive capabilities of a chicken are so vestigial as to make it an honorary member of the vegetable kingdom.

Actually I am trying to launch a c0mpany as we speak. The plan is we will offer “vegetarian offsets”.

Basically if you want to be vegetarian but feel you cannot give up meat, you can pay us, we will pay some Chinese or Indian peasant not to eat meat (keeping a percentage for ourselves) and so you can tuck into that beef steak in full knowledge that actually less cruelty is being done to animals. Somewhere else.

I don’t see why we couldn’t offer vegan offsets too.

So it isn’t as daft as it sounds. Maybe someone has got to the market before us.

  4. It’ll be one of these restaurants that sells everything as if it were a meat dish but it’s all in fact vegan. There used to be a great Chinese place like that in NYC, called something stupid like “Veg Veg”. Superb vegetarian food, though, once you could get past the mental block (if you’re a vegetarian, at least) of ordering from a meaty menu

  5. I eat vegan chicken all the time, it is usually made of wheat gluten (ie, seitan). A better, or at least more truthful, name would be “mock chicken.”

Also I’m pretty sure that no one in our government, with the exception of one-time presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, is actually vegan. So you’ll have to find something else to blame for their wackiness.
