Curbing Executive Pay

John Harris argues that we really ought to look at some of these ideas:

Horst Köhler, the Christian Democrat president of Germany, has decried the "bizarrely high" pay of some executives, while the German Social Democrats have proposed a move to stop "excessive" pay being deducted from taxable profits;

One easy way to stop this idea though. Simply point out that this is what the US already does.

Given that the driving force of all too many on the Continent is whatever the septics don\’t do pointing out that you\’re merely copying something that they do do should work.

It\’s also worth pointing out that it doesn\’t seem to have had all that much effect: are US executives on lower multiples of average incomes than European ones?

  1. “That penultimate paragraph needs a little revision I fear.”

    I rather liked ‘septics’. Might be worth using regularly.

  2. We’ve been “seppos” to the Australians for years and years. Hadn’t realized it had caught on anyplace else.

  3. It needs a comma, thus:-

    Given that the driving force of all too many on the Continent is whatever the septics don’t do, pointing out that you’re merely copying something that they do do should work.
