Those Water Bills

Fine words indeed on the subject of rises in water bills.

Dame Yve Buckland, chair of the Consumer Council for Water, said: "Water and sewerage prices between 2010 and 2015 need to be set in line with what customers are willing and able to pay, and companies should deliver a package of benefits in line with what consumers see as a priority.

The only problem is that the capital spending that the water companies must do is really set in Brussels, with those ludicrous targets for water purity that are imposed.

Thus neither the companies nor the consumers are able to actually ask whether that last 0.1% of purification is something they really want to spend billions of pounds upon.

  1. Do they set target s for leakage? Perhaps when these get near say 5/10% we could consider some of these other investments because where I live nearly 50% of water resource is being wasted in the distribution system!
