The biggest current threat to marine life is not climate change but over fishing and mankind\’s demand for water, experts have warned.
Of course overfishing is a problem. Because everyone (including those running the CFP) fails to understand the basics of the underlying logic. It\’s a Commons Problem. Thus access must be limited and we have to stop people being able to lift fish on a first come first served basis.
No, quotas do not stop that.
One interesting point to note. There are a couple of fisheries which are privately owned. Studying them leads to the conclusion that the most profitable level of fish is one that is well above a sustainable population. Thus the incentive of those who own fisheries is sufficient on and of itself to maintain them.
Overfishing is certainly an economically self-defeating behaviours, and one wonders what will happen 20 years down the line when all the fish have gone and the fisheries industry collapses. Extra EU subsidies perhaps?

Marine life damaged by mankind’s demand for water? Sounds like shite to me.
