Rosie Boycott

As the financial hub of the city crumbles, we have to find a way to build a food system that will make us all the more resilient to future shocks;

Oh, agreed, we do.

Now, what would be the most resilient system possible? That would be one where we get our food from a wide variety of places. One where we are not dependent upon the weather in a particular growing season, a particular location.

That is, we would move as far as we could to a global trading system to suppply our food. Not a system which relied upon what we can grow within 10, 50 or 100 miles of where we happen to be.

What is it that Rosie suggests? That we should move away from the global market and produce more of our food locally.

Twit.

Somewhere

The ghost of Linus Pauling is wincing.

Some cancer patients take vitamin C supplements to aid their general wellbeing in the belief it boosts their immune system and helps them fight the disease.

But laboratory studies have found that this may be counter-productive.

Researchers at the prestigious Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in Philadelphia, USA, found that every chemotherapy drug they tested did not work as efficiently if the cancer cells had been pretreated with vitamin C.

In tests, between 30 per cent and 70 per cent fewer cancer cells were killed if they had been treated with vitamin C compared to those not exposed to the vitamin.

Pauling\’s thesis was that large doses of Vitamin C were the cure for cancer.

Hurrah, hurrah!

Finally, some sense in this matter:

In reality, Mr Justice Blake said…….. "The court is conscious that at the heart of military life and the sacrifices that soldiers make in the discharge of their duties is the military covenant. "Rewarding long and distinguished service by the grant of residence in the country for which the service was performed would, in my judgment, be a vindication and an enhancement of this covenant."

Damn right, they fight for us, are willing to die for us, it really isn\’t all that much to ask that we offer them the opportunity to live amongst us.
