Really?

The Express:

aretha franklin SPENT THE SUMMER LEARNING TO PLAY THE PIANO FOR A FORTHCOMING ALBUM OF CLASSICAL COVERS.

Spent the summer learning to play the piano did she?

Do they not know that she\’s always been regarded as one of the great piano players?

Ahem.

  1. That’s some of the strangest capitalisation and punctuation I’ve ever seen in a newspaper article.

I’m not sure the headline’s altogether wrong, though: “I spent the summer learning how to write articles for the WSJ” would be a reasonable headline if I were to do such a course ahead of joining the WSJ, despite the fact that I’m capable [*] of writing good articles already, given the difference between the WSJ and UK journalism (i.e. it’s much more dull but has much tougher rules on sourcing).

    [*] yeah, fuck off.
