Isn’t that a sunk cost?
Oh how I hope he ventures out in his car the day after his 100th birthday, breaks the speed limit, parks on double yellow lines, drives the wrong way around the Hangar Lane gyratory system, and runs over a wheelie bin on the way home.
We have become much too timid, too diffident, and much too ready to make allowances.
