Timmy Elsewhere

At The Register.

On that "connection" between cannabis and schizophrenia.

My thanks to Bruce Charlton for the link to the original paper.

  1. That’s good digging, but even that recent ACMD report said:

“The odds ratio for developing schizophrenia in someone with a first-degree relative (i.e. parent, sibling or offspring) with the condition – compared with someone who has not – is about 10 (in the absence of cannabis use). In this instance, the size of the odds ratio strongly suggests a causal role for genetic factors.”

and also referred to a Danish Report:

    Arendt M, Rosenberg R, Foldager L, Perto G, Munk-Jorgensen P (2005) “Cannabis-induced psychosis and subsequent schizophrenia-spectrum disorders: Follow-up study of 535 incident cases.” British Journal of Psychiatry
    187: 510–515.

  2. Hadn’t actually read the report, Mark. Ta both to you and Tim for the info. Fascinating stuff all. Frankly, I still find it amazing that our legal system suggests jail as a reasonable response to people eating or breathing something.
