Spot on sir, spot on

“You hear them shouting ‘Heil Griffin!’ and you imagine it is the Voice of the People. That is where you make your bloomer. What the Voice of the People is saying is: ‘Look at that frightful ass Griffin, swanking about wearing hideous ribbons! Did you ever in your puff see such a perfect perisher!’”

  1. The Perfect Perisher Griffin has, as far as I know, killed no-one. The Loathsome Wee Twat Blair killed people by the thousand and tens of thousands: it’s Blair’s fascism-lite that has so far proved the deadlier. Perhaps we should hang him, pour encourager Griffin.

  2. The commenter might have mentioned his borrowing the quote from Wodehouse. In these dark days who would know, except a few of us Wodehouse nuts?

  3. dearieme,

you’re name sums your post up perfectly.

In what way was Blair a fascist, or fascist-lite, whatever the hell that means? Intervening to topple a genuine fascist regime, which is what Blair did in going into Iraq, does not make you a fascist. In fact, it makes you one of the good guys.

Perhaps you should go have a lie down. All this sunshine is affecting your critical faculties.

  4. I think the quote from The Code of the Woosters is rather low-hanging fruit these days, and as such should be quietly sequestered until it has regained some of its freshness. I confess to tossing it out myself when otherwise unenthused about making a cogent argument.

And Hugh is pretty much on the money, despite his regrettable confusion between the the contraction of the second person present indicative active of ‘to be’ and the personal pronoun. By far the bulk of civilian casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan have been caused by the enemy. Inasmuch as we have inadvertently killed non-hostiles (a subset of non-combatants), this is unfortunate, but let it not be forgotten that the number of Jihadists we have slaughtered probably is in the six figures by now. That should be a cause for celebration by anyone who claims to value Western civilisation over its foes.
