This isn\’t a defence

A European Commission spokesman last night insisted the Government agreed to every word in the directive.

He added: “If someone thinks we don’t understand the British mentality then neither does the UK Government.”

  1. Look on the bright side- this’ll upset the Belgians, and anyone else who actually wants to eat horse meat, far more than it upsets the British who don’t want to anyway.

  2. p.s. Since the British Government is, at least in theory, appointed by the British People, I have to concede that a foreigner should be able to trust their word on what is the British mentality. All we need to do is convert theory into practice.

  3. I can just see the look on the face of some Middle Eastern Billionaire, when asked to sign that his trophy winning prize and joy will not be eaten.

  4. I’m a firm believer in never cooking your friends. It’s just bad form.

Having said that, I am a fairly devoted carnivore. So when a neighbour’s goat up and died….

(… it was a bit tough, but tasted a lot like leg of lamb.)

Elk is nice too. Take the antlers off first though or you will never get it in the roasting tin.
