Timmy elsewhere

At the ASI.

It appears that GPs can manage procurement budgets….rather better than bureaucrats can, actually.

  1. This is one of those ideas that sounds great in principle but I’m not convinced it’ll work in (general) practice. Could positive examples like the one in your ASI post be the exception rather than the rule?

Other objections aside, where are GPs to find the time?

  2. Don’t worry. Just give ’em (the GPs) a bit of time and they’ll BE bureaucrats.

A similar confusion exists wherein people think that having businessmen or corporate executives in charge of government is likely to solve many problems.

  3. Gene,

Isn’t it all about perspective? If your job – your career – is to administrate, and you have the authority, then you become bureaucratic.

If the GP is in charge with the administration under him, perhaps the focus could be on medicine.
