In Iraq, a country with about the same population as Venezuela, there were 4,644 civilian deaths from violence in 2009, according to Iraq Body Count; in Venezuela that year, the number of murders climbed above 16,000.
Even Mexico’s infamous drug war has claimed fewer lives.
One\’s a war zone, another\’s in the middle of a drug war: just what is Venezuela\’s excuse?
That Chávez keeps criticising the US, of course.
It’s clearly George Bush’s fault.
Bourgeois statistics?
You’re obviously a Right-Wing, Reactionary, Capitalist Running Dog Lackey for even mentioning this. These figures are transparent lies created by George W Bush in collaboration with Rupert Murdoch and Tony Blair. All Right-Thinking People know that Venezuela is a Peoples Paradise comparable only to Cuba in it’s enlightened policies and peace-loving, happy, healthy population.
Umm…Ken’s advice maybe? http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2008/aug/28/livingstone.venezuela
It’s all our fault!
Somehow!
Hmmm, I wonder……
I think the reason is a bit sinister. It is rumoured amongst Venezuelans living in the UK that Chavez kills his opponents in secret.
How better to hide murders than in a country with lots of them?
