  1. A copper is pounding the beat one night (takes you back, doesn’t it?) when he comes across a guy on his knees under a street light.
    “‘Ello ‘ello ‘ello, what’s going here?”
    “I’ve losht my keys, ofisher.”
    “OK, sir, I’ll give you a hand. Where did you see them last?”
    “Over there by that bush when I was taking a pish.”
    “Then why are you looking over here?”
    “Because the light’s better.”

    The Leitz-Bettre effect can be found anywhere there is government. Why do cops threaten the victim rather than pursue the criminal? Because the light’s better. Why hassle underage girls rather than the guy sleeping with them? Because the light’s better. Why fine motorists for driving about? Because the light’s better.
