The Big Society in action

FC United of Manchester.

Well done lads, you don\’t like the big corporate takeover of sport, bugger off and do it yourself.

No one said it would ever be easy but damn, it can be fun.

And that, actually, really is what it\’s all about. You don\’t like factory food? Fine, there are hillside bothys with a bit of land just crying out for someone to farm them. Don\’t like the big banks? Do what your forefathers did and set up a mutual. Hate mass manufacturing? Great, set up as an artisan.

No, you don\’t get to tell the rest of us that we have to do the same: just as we don\’t get to tell you how you should spend your life.

Hey, get out there, have fun, live it your way: death comes soon enough for us all.

That is, as far as I can see that the phrase has any meaning at all beyond a politician\’s soundbite, what the Big Society is all about.

  1. I do not think that he really wants that, as I read it Cameron wants to appoint the “elite” to run everybody else, this same “elite” being his mates in Councils and trade unions.
