  1. When ever I read these ‘obesity’ stories I wonder what the change in the ethnic mix due to immigration does to the averages.

    It’s a simple fact that a lot of cultures simply do not share the Anglo-Saxon obsession with thinness. For instance, an African family I know in London, all of the women would be classified as grossly overweight by any survey. Most of the kids as well. It’s me that gets criticised for being so skinny & told that I need a few decent meals.

    I would imagine for many of the more recent arrivals on UK soil carrying a few extra pounds is a status symbol not something to be ashamed of.

  2. Only fourteen pounds in twenty four years, indeed. My little girl managed that in three. On current form that should mean she’ll weigh 134, 672 lbs by the time she’s 24.
