Richard Excell complains bitterly about the deficiencies of Stalinist central planning of the labour force and budget in the NHS. How having politicians of the wrong stripe determining the use of resources is leading to the evisceration of that service.
And yet, if you said that the solution is to get politicians of any stripe out of the business of running the NHS, if you said that we\’re going to put staff levels, treatments, staff wages and all, into the hands of the professionals, the doctors themselves, he\’d scream blue bloody murder at you for \”destroying the NHS\”.
Wondrous really.
“Wondrousness on the left” – try Moonbat today, who wants to institute a Bedroomgestapo.
“into the hands of the professionals, the doctors themselves”
The Tory reforms speak the language of de-centralisation, but they represent nothing of the sort. Fancy talk of putting GPs in the hot seat is just code for handing care budgets over to big commercial consortia.
And docs are probably the last people who should be in charge – we need a decent set of managers, who are prepared to run acute care on military lines.
“Fancy talk of putting GPs in the hot seat is just code for handing care budgets over to big commercial consortia.”
But you get to choose your GP. Currently, I have absolutely no way to express any dissatisfaction with the way my local hospital is run.
“to run acute care on military lines”: what, the military that sent Our Boys to war in the desert without decent boots, and wearing camouflage designed for Northern Europe? With Landrovers that couldn’t withstand roadside bombs? Et bloody cetera.
“Et bloody cetera”
You know full well that’s not what I meant, dearieme. I doubt there’s a better immediate trauma facility than the one at Camp Bastion. As the offspring of an ex-Army doc, I could say a whole lot more – but I’ll leave it there.
“I have absolutely no way to express any dissatisfaction”
And how will handing over care budgets to United etc improve this?
Didntcha know that politicians automagically become competent on being elected?
Provided of course they are comrades.
