Well, yes Polly

The man who pretends to be a great free marketeer has built an empire almost entirely out of circumventing competition to throttle free markets. That is what Adam Smith warned businesses will do unless commerce is well-regulated by governments to keep healthy markets open. The paradox ignored by this government is that entrepreneurial capitalism needs a strong state to thrive: once markets ossify into monopolies, cartels, corruptions, briberies and intimidation of law-makers, they stagnate. That\’s why third world dictatorships fail economically.

And Ol\’ Adam would have had some choice words for a taxpayer funded BBC style organisation too.

  1. Murdoch as a free marketeer?

Certainly he is an entrepreneur but he is also an arch-fixer and political manipulator, using the opportunties presented to him by medling, overweening political scum as they have attempted to control media down the decades.

  2. OK, didnt realise she was talking about Murdoch (didnt follow the link because it’s too late at night to bend far enough to stick my head up my arse. Which is necessary for her wibblings to make sense or at least be bearable). Murdoch is not a capitalist. He is an economic royalist. He comes from a family that knew the value of influence over execution, and that’s been his modus operandi his entire career. It should be pointed out that the crimes that Polly accuses him of, would not be possible if the government did not have it’s fingers in so many pies. So many places that are then susceptible to govt influences.

As an avowed libertarian (i.e. fuck off and leave me alone unless my activities are actually impacting your life, liberty, or property (you can stick your sensibilities up your arse)). I beleive govt should be limited to defense (armed forces), legal proceedings (courts), enforcing the limited no of laws (cops) and legislation (but limited to the areas above + life/liberty/ property).

I have to concede that “we” might need to concede an antitrust function as well, because markets do favour monopolies, even if only for a short time (rockefeller/carnegie etc, IBM in the 60s, microsoft and now google (apple will kill themselves off again)) .

    Curious to hear your thoughts.

Why stop there? Arbitrary, don’t you think? Why shouldn’t we all be allowed to kill each other without the nanny state interfering?
