Apparently there\’s a shortage of teaspoons in India

Workers in the rural employment program aren\’t allowed to use machines, for example, and have to dig instead with pick axes and shovels. The idea is to create as many jobs as possible for unskilled workers.

  1. India since the Raj has been pretty much a laboratory for economic fuckwittedness. Its recent rise out of thorough inanition to some semblance of development has been wholly in spite of its labour force structure, not because of it.

  2. Its sad indeed that make-work wanton toil might be better than the alternative, I hope that India moves beyond this sort of thing soon.
