New OECD Statement: The Spirit Level is full of shit

Data here.

Essentially, take the OECD\’s new hugely complicated and lovely data set on quality of life etc, plot it against inequality and we find: No Connection!

Yup, The Spirit Level was full of utter shite.

  1. “The Spirit Level was full of utter shite.”

Clearly you are lying. My barkingly insane prejudices carry far more weight than your so called “evidence”.

  2. It is also full of lies to support its case, putting Sweden as being one of the most equal countries whereas 5% of the households own 77% of investible wealth, or more than three times the other 95%; New Labour stopped publishing the data when the share of the richest 5% of households had risen to 62% or 1.6 times the lower 95%.

  3. On the other hand, the OECD quality of life index has Australia rated top on governance, apparently because of high voter turnout, but voting is compulsory in Australia. And Switzerland is only around the middle in terms of governance.

So I don’t think we can rely on the OECD quality of life index to disprove anything.
