Diplomatic sources last night disclosed that recent intelligence suggested the Libyan dictator was “paranoid” and “on the run” from Nato’s escalating attacks on his regime.
For there really are the Air Forces of several nations attempting to blow him into small pieces.
Being worried about this, taking action to avoid it, is not paranoia. It\’s plain common bloody sense.
Reminds me of the T-shirt that said “Just because you are paranoid doesn’t mean they are not out to get you”.
remind me again, when did we get the mandate to pursue him unto his death?
It was very nebulously covered under “all necessary measures” johnny. At least, that would be the argument if anyone ever admitted targeting him. So far it’s just been “we’re attacking command and control bunkers. Whoops, was he there?”
Of course, that raises the question of who decides what is necessary…
Or to put it another way, who guards the guards that are the enemies of the paranoids who have enemies too?
But conversely, just because they are all out to get you doesn’t mean you aren’t paranoid.
@johnnybonk: “remind me again, when did we get the mandate to pursue him unto his death?”
I’d like to know that too. That ‘no fly zone’ suddenly took on a life of its own, didn’t it?
Just after reading your blogpost, I was confronted by an article in the electronic version of the Dutch-language daily (Het Parool) that refers to that very Telegraph article, breathlessly confirming Ghadaffi’s “paranoia”.
The misapprehension of the term is seemingly also subject to open borders.
