For several years, the flag-draped coffins of fallen servicemen and women have been met by large crowds who line the streets to pay their respects as they return to British soil.
But repatriation flights are to be diverted and will no longer be flown back to RAF Lyneham and through the small Wiltshire town of Royal Wootton Bassett, where they were saluted come rain or shine.
Instead, they will arrive back to RAF Brize Norton, where they will be driven through the back gate and then down side roads, neatly avoiding the nearby town of Carterton, as they make their way to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Andrew Robathan, Minister for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans, admitted that the decision to avoid public scenes of emotion had been taken deliberately.
“The side gate was seen by the Ministry of Defence and the police as the most appropriate way to take out future corteges,” he told Radio Oxford.
No, you don\’t hide away the bodies of those you have sent to die. Maybe the war is just and righteous, maybe it isn\’t, but the least you can do is have the good grace to acknowledge that as a result of your decisions young men and women now lie amouldering in their coffins.

There is a reason there\’s a War Memorial in every city, town, village and hamlet in the country you know. Those who died for us, on our behalf, are to be remembered, morning and at the coming of the night, not scurried away to their graves as if they are some unmentionable it\’s best not to talk about.

There is no difference between the red mob and the blue mob, both serve the same one world order cartel. This is yet another example of the cultural de-nationalising of our country’s heritage. The purpose . . . ? To continually erode down to nothing all aspects of daily life which connect us to one another and thereby make us more easily led into the cultural wasteland that is planned.
All wars serve hidden economic interests and the latest are no different. The vermin that send our good men and women off to these arenas of death are the mouthpieces and servants of the real enemy, which lies in our midst.
Didn’t they use Brize Norton at the beginning, but stopped because the coroner there was a bit keen and made some critical comments about lack of equipment? So they switched to Lyneham and so started the whole Wootton Bassett thing.
So has the awkward coroner retired, or been leant on, or have they forgotten why they switched initially?
Because, at heart, they’re cowards. Cowards over the military, the economy, law and order, education, health and foreign aid. They decided that they would basically follow the BBC line on almost everything and surrender when the pressure got a bit much.
I don’t know what most of them are doing there. At least Labour are mostly useless twats that couldn’t get a £60,000 job, so they do it for the money.
@Richard: Lyneham is being closed as a RAF base, thats why they are sending the flights to Brize Norton instead.
Hopefully the locals will soon get to know which roads are being used, and provide suitable recognition.

Brize Norton of course will be kept open because the politicians like to use it for their private flights.
IIRC the decision to close Lyneham was taken under Labour’s watch. Whatever the reason, it shouldn’t stop formal recognition when the fallen return.
Even the SAS know that sometimes they have to implement an unpopular order.

If you Google the route between Brize and the John Radcliffe hospital it takes you through North Oxford (and there’s no other serious way to get there). Although it’s a main A Road up there, in places it’s a pleasant tree lined avenue with a green central reservation. Looks like a decent place to pay respects. Just Sayin

As has been said, Lyneham’s shuttinhg so the repatriations hae to come to Brize, where exactly the same degree of ceremony will be used. However Brize, being the only airhead supporting the various ongoing Ops has a shedload of kit and personnel coming into it every day, including people about to deploy and their families; funeral corteges going past them would be a Bad Thing.
