UK Uncut: Yes, they are idiots

Indeed, in a Guardian article written at the time, Sir Philip is quoted as saying:

“I will give this efficiency review my very best effort knowing how hugely important it is to the recovery of the country. I want to help focus, motivate and energise to achieve these efficiency savings. It is these actions that will restart growth in the UK.”

Recovery of the country? Restart growth in the UK? What about the millions he avoids in income tax every year?

They don\’t even understand their own allegations.

The allegation is that by paying a large dividend to Tina Green then Philip Green dodged taxes in one specific year. Arcadia has not paid a dividend since and so even UK Uncut do not think that Green is dodging taxes every year.

For it\’s well known that he himself is UK resident and thus pays full UK tax on his salary.

  1. But the allegations are “emotionally true” and should therefore be treated as fact even when inconsistent with reality and indeed itself.

  2. Falco, that’s the long and the short of it. Arnold Kling, to whom should be given much kudos, differentiates the two modes of thought thus: there are ‘M’ type arguments, in which case the Motivation of the protagonist is taken as the chief arbiter of its worth, and ‘C’ type arguments, in which case the Consequences enjoyed or suffered in its light are considered. It may not be a terribly surprising revelation to find that I tilt more strongly to the ‘C’ side of the road.
