Young people are socialists

How absolutely stunningly amazing!

In December, a poll by the Pew Research Center found support for socialism now outweighs support for capitalism among a younger generation of Americans.

That the young are more socialist than the general population is hardly a surprise really, is it?

Fortunately a sufficiently large number of them manage to grow up as they age.

  1. time for the Churchill quote:

“If you’re not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you’re not a conservative at forty you have no brain.”

  2. It certainly says something about our educational establishment. Covering up the murder of 100m people is quite a feat.

  3. I have to admit that I was absolutely in favour of the redistribution of wealth when I was in my late teens early twenties. When you are the potential recipient of such a redistribution it makes perfect sense.

Once I hit my mid thirties and started accumulating a few assets(house, car, decent paycheck) following a very long time in higher education which I had to pay for, all of a sudden redistribution of my wealth towards feckless green left/socialist workers types didn’t seem such a great idea.

  4. Young people believe in Father Christmas too.

Curious how the young are so desperate to free themselves from the overbearing authority of parents, yet equally desperate for the overbearing authority of Socialism.

  5. I followed the classic path described by Offshore Observer but my enlightenment has been rather more rapid – I’m not yet 25 and socialism (or support for some of the Lib Dems’ less liberal policies) is but a distant memory. ,
