The power of the committee, it gets everywhere!

It is especially annoying that Banerjee was put back in the committee two years after he gave the award to his colleague and lover (not a secret any more now that they have a baby).

About the award of the John Bates Clark Medal by the American Economics Association to the best economist under 40.

Often thought of as as an indicator of a future Nobel.

  1. So Much For Subtlety

Well the question to ask is if the Nobel Committee is also virtually entirely made up of MIT PhDs who may or may not be sleeping with the candidates.

If this prize is a good measure of Nobel success, I guess they might.

  2. Future non-Nobel you mean. Many people assume that economists are liars: until they stop lying about their pretendy prize, people may reasonably think so.

Anyway, now that physics has been stuck for more than 30 years, couldn’t they haul back on the physics envy a bit?
