Lefty heads asplode

Ikea is facing allegations that it used Cuban prisoners to make its products in the 1980s.

The claims follow allegations this week that East German political prisoners were forced to make furniture for the Swedish retailer from the 1970s.

According to a report in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, a deal to make Ikea furniture in Cuban prisons was hatched using East German trading connections.

Using prison labour is of course wrong.

But Cuba, and formerly, the GDR, were right in their chucking the bourgeois into prison. And he who does not work should not eat as well.

So how can this be negotiated, this conflict of lefty views?

Presumably blame IKEA: must be, the capitalists made them do it, eh?

They get more worked up because IKEA’s founder may or may not have joined a perfectly legal political party as an 18 year old.

OK, it was a pro-Nazi Party but less of a sin than collaborating with the East Germans I would think. Still Bea Campbell was accepting freebies from them for years and she is still in good standing with the moderate Left much less the loons.

I think the left moved away from “He who does not work, neither shall he eat” a long time ago. In fact, I have heard the exact words used (by someone who claimed to be a Marxist, no less!) as an expression of heartless libertarianism.

I didn’t tell him the source because I didn’t have time to clean up an exploded head.

    Political compass gives

Those who are able to work, and refuse the opportunity, should not expect society’s support.

as a statement that the economic right agrees with. NEP concern trolling ftw!

Jonathan Monroe – “In fact, I have heard the exact words used (by someone who claimed to be a Marxist, no less!) as an expression of heartless libertarianism. ”

Isn’t the origin of the words not with Lenin but with Saint Paul? Second Thessalonians 3:10?

Not exactly heartless or a liberal.

  4. Surely Cuba doesn’t have prisons, its a paradise. If it does, then the inmates are counter revolutionaries, so they can hardly complain about slave labour, they are responsible for enslaving the workers of the world.

  5. Pop across to Against Prison Slavery to gain a wider view of all the companies quite willing to use forced prison labour. But don’t worry, they are own-grown rather than foreign crime so that seems to be acceptable…
