A message from Compass

Dear members, just a note to say that ballot forms for the Management Committee are being sent via post and email this week. Due to a technical difficulty, some members will not receive your electronic ballots until Friday. I apologise for any inconvenience.

Thank you for your patience.

Do note that these are the people who insist they should be planning the economy for the rest of us.

You know, the skilled and omniscient technocrats?

  1. In my son’s first post-graduation job, any lad/lass who could not sort out a tech problem overnight would not be so much looking for the chop as wondering how he/she got employed in the first place. Actually when I was a trainee/assistant programmer pre-/during university we (usually my superiors) didn’t stop until we had sorted out any problems we found.
Four days to sort out an emailing failure?

  2. yes John77…how would any phone company survive that kind of incompetence…but then RBS is still recovering from a 4 day glitch

  3. “Due to a technical difficulty, some members will not receive your electronic ballots until Friday”

I would hope that no members receive Tim’s electronic ballots…

On the technical side of things, it’s amusing to try and work out what possible kind of problem could take ’til Friday to fix, but has a definite resolution date. I’m guessing it’s the kind of error which occurs somewhere between a manager’s collar and hair.

  4. “what possible kind of problem could take ’til Friday to fix”
That’d be the sort of technical problem only the man coming in on Friday fixes.
And you are harsh. Compass do the ‘big sky’ planning. The mere details are rightly handled by the minions. So the Management Committee ballot is planned by saying “We will have a Management Committee ballot. Arrange that!”

  5. Couldn’t they just have attached the ballot to the email?

Or am I not understanding what an electronic ballot is?

  6. You guys think you’re so clever – do you know how long it takes to paste the same email to thousands of people changing the email address every time???
