Sippican does his usual excellent job. Dave makes the same pick. And I also chose that very TV recording of Unsquare Dance to illustrate Dave Brubeck\’s passing.
As Ms. Solent once said about this whole blogging thing:
\”One way in which consensus opinion changes is when scattered individuals become aware that many others share their opinions.\”
That the three of us are obviously so hip to the hep that we actually know that there is a Dave Brubeck piece which is not Take Five is of course profoundly unimportant.
But My God hasn\’t there been a communications revolution in the last couple of decades?
Not being funny, Tim, but Unsquare Dance isn’t exactly obscure.
Can’t believe you didn’t mention that the Murphmeister blogged yesterday on Take Five being one of his desert island discs.
One can imagine him sitting on his desert island tax haven, surrounded by dodgy brass nameplates, and his copies of the Bible, Shakespeare and his book of choice, the Courageous State.
Take away that damn clapping and put Paul Desmond in there, then you might have something. How about Toki’s Theme as an alternative piece to remember him by: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX1KO8MndYI
IMO, FWIW, “Blue Rondo Ala Turk” (sp?) is clearly superior to both “Take Five” and “Unsquare Dance”. Desmond shines there.

I have all three downloaded onto my drive these last three years or so, thanks to youtubedownloader. I like unsquare best, it’s funny, but also cool. I mean, it takes some doing to dance in 37/8 time
On other matters, Ed Cassidy died yesterday. Aka Mr Skin

1) Go to Sippican Cottage and view the video. I wasn’t brave enough to post that – thought it might turn others off.
2) I know who Freddie King is! (If only because the Grateful Dead pulled out a cover of “Hide-Away” after an 18 year hiatus in 1989).
3) I did not know that Cassidy had died. While obtaining digital copies last summer of many old LPs that I’d forgotten about … one of the first was 12 Dreams …. Good stuff.
