I think rejecting a bad split is economically rational, especially if there is more than one play (or at least likelihood of further plays). If you let people take $99 for the $1 you get you’re saying you will let them walk all over you in future. Punishing them now will get you a better split in future. So I don’t agree that it is economically rational to take $1. Of course the other flaws are that there is no other exchange going on (it’s purely free “money” to both sides) and you have no idea how many times you will play.
