Is that the “if you give us everything we won’t break your other arm” sort of negotiating that did Unite so much good in Grangemouth recently? Ironman November 7, 2013 at 11:19 am Oh those assumptions. “The extra money in their pockets will be spent in local shops” So, nobody shops online do they? It’s funny how some assumptions don’t need empirical support if we are assuming things as we want them to be, yet other claims are derided as being unsupported by evidence if they lead to conclusions we don’t like. I give another example “All economists agree that National Insurance costs result entirely in lower wages for employees” (Richard Murphy). Ok then, let’s scrap employer’s NI shall we and then of those good things we desire will come to pass. Mr Murphy, however, has argued very strongly elsewhere that the incidence of other taxes impacts only on ‘Capital’. So which assumption to go with?
