If the sugar is evil people are telling us that it’s sugar that is evil, not fat, then why aren’t they telling us all to eat full fat food which contains less sugar?

    We are at war with Eastasia. We have always been at war with Eastasia. The Party cannot tolerate any suggestion that we used to be at war with Eurasia.

  2. Because, of course, such food as full-fat yoghurt tastes far better than heavily-sugared low-fat yoghurt, and since the point is deny other people pleasure, it might be better to suggest that they eat mashed broccoli instead.

    By the way, Malhotra has misspelled the name of the one doctor that he cites. Whatever the opposite of a careful researcher is – that’s him.

  4. Because the best diet comprises a balanced range of vitamins and minerals and a lot of protein. But it is politically incorrect to advocate eating beef or mutton reared on rough grazing in England or Scotland that will not support crops (most of England and more than three-quarters of Scotland cannot be used for arable farming) since the “message” is that all meat consumes as much food that could be consumed by humans as the cattle waiting to be slaughtered on feedlots outside Chicago.

  5. And if sugar is as dangerous as smoking, surely that means that smoking is no more dangerous than eating sugar.
