Annabel Karmel, the celebrity children’s chef, only hired “good-looking men” and fired an employee 20 years her junior after he rejected her sexual advances, an employment tribunal heard.
Mrs Karmel, 57, the bestselling author dubbed the “Delia Smith” of children’s food, allegedly wore provocative clothing and made inappropriate sexual comments to her former sales director Mark Salter.
Mr Salter, 39, said that because he resisted the married mother-of-three’s suggestive behaviour he was sacked in July last year, just four months after taking charge of sales for the company that handles Mrs Karmel’s business
What’s interesting about it is that while Karmel’s name was being protected the case went on. As soon as the judge said that she could be named, it was settled.
Read into that whatever one might wish but it is interesting….
Saw her on a TV show with some moppets cooking children’s food a few years ago – never seen anyone’s “enjoyment” of other people’s kids look so damn forced and artificial
Coupla points.
First, employment tribunals are often criticised but the judge here was absolutely spot on in rejecting the anonymity.
Second, not having heard of this woman I googled her and I have to say I would, I definitely would, and indeed from her pictures I still would if I were 20 or even 30 years younger rather than as now only 2 years younger.
For a woman in her 50’s, she’s quite the saucy little minx. Allegedly. I’m sure she could have got what she allegedly wanted from plenty of other male employees.
When I was in my early 20’s I had an attractive older lady take a special interest in me. She was a director and I was barely above the office boy in seniority but I was unattached and so was she.
It was an education, bless her naughty cradle-robbing heart. This “No sex please, we’re British” thing never applied to the workplace. I get the feeling that they have a far more puritanical culture in, say, US corporates.
It’s Mad Men meets Benny Hill out there in UK business. And for that, slender well-groomed divorcees who can still blush like a schoolgirl, I salute you.
BraveFart – “Second, not having heard of this woman I googled her and I have to say I would, I definitely would, and indeed from her pictures I still would if I were 20 or even 30 years younger rather than as now only 2 years younger.”
I haven’t heard of this woman either. Weird. Nor have I bothered to google her. But men with plenty of other women interested in them, don’t get upset if a younger woman turns him down. If this woman is still do-able, you have to wonder if the boy toy is lying or if she has such personality problems that she can’t pull.
Or of course maybe women are different.
SMFS – Not sure if you’re being sarcastical, but yes, women are different. Wonderfully, maddeningly different.
Pull up a chair and louche Uncle Steve will tell you about how women always take rejection personally and why you should always be very careful about her feelings when rebuffing a lady’s advances.
Cripes, I think I’m turning into Sergeant Wilson in my old age.
Telegraph says she’s 57; Wikipedia says she’s 51. Not that it matters, they’ve both been wrong before.
What BraveFart said .
Umm breastfeeding, wow!
