Contra Piketty inheritance is becoming less important as a route into the plutocracy, not more.

  1. So Much for Subtlety

Using estate tax returns data, we observe that the share of women among the very wealthy in the United States peaked in the late 1960s at nearly one-half and then declined to one-third. We argue that this pattern reflects changes in the importance of dynastic wealth, with the share of women proxying for inherited wealth.

So capitalism is sexist too? Don’t tell the Guardian or they will try even harder to ban it.

  2. Hmm; I’m not sure wealthy women in the US is a proxy for wealth by inheritance.

Wasn’t the spread of wealth to women then mostly a result of divorce?

In which case is the slow-down more to do with the spread of valid pre-nups?
