PaulB July 31, 2014 at 7:29 pm Disappointingly enough, Leviticus 20:13 doesn’t mention stoning in any translation. dearieme July 31, 2014 at 8:00 pm @LUKE: it’s a fine work of art, the AV. Quite beautiful. So’s the Book of Common Prayer. The Roman Catholics of these islands seem to have stopped producing beautiful things some time before the Reformation. An explanation is called for. John77 August 1, 2014 at 9:45 pm I don’t have every American translation but the best current translation (the REB) supports PaulB – you would need to make a lot of assumptions to get “stoned” into that verse. I can see how someone would do that but the text does not support those words so the pun does not work. It would be a good joke if you could a liberal translation that used those words.
