There is a wealth of additional cases to bring: so if not this time, something may yet stick to Sarkozy. At least this is what the Hollande crowd hopes, because Sarkozy, like Freddy Krueger in the horror movies, is just getting angrier and angrier – and he will get back at them if he ever wins again.
Difficult to know. My general assumption is that French politics is horribly dodgy so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if some of the accusations were true. And also that any journalist reporting on it will already be a member of one camp or the other. But precisely because it is all that dodgy it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it were a political, rather than legal, witch hunt.
My guess is that whatever he has done is par for the course in French high politics, but the decision to single him out for prosecution is a political one.
If you are looking for the application of principles or consistency, you’d do well to give France a wide berth.
Sarkozy has the wrong politics and went to the wrong schools. He is now being punished for confronting the oligarchs that run France.
But of course he is guilty too. But then look at what the French *won’t* prosecute:
Not to mention, of course, Bokassa serving him roast school child for dinner.
I am a free-trader, but that is as far as it goes. I do not want my country to be a political or economic Union with this country. and no, words like “federal” or “subsidiarity” do not placate me.
Sarkozy would have been a fool to have left office without having dirt on the socialists. He must know where some of the leftitst’s bodies are buried. Woot woot. This could get very entertaining.
All of life is drifting this way. I can’t think of any other explanation for the growth in laws than that it eventually means we’re all breaking some law at any given moment and it’s then in the whim and gift of the ruling class to decide whether we’re punished or not. Sarkozy is probably guilty; he made the mistake of not being in power any more.
