Timmy elsewhere

At the ASI:

More errors in how to react to the news of climate change. You can’t reject “neoliberal” cures for the problem given that all of the calculations showing that it’s worth trying to cure assume already that we use neoliberal solutions.

  1. Of course they are mad.
But you can surely agree with someone’s diagnosis without your disagreement with his proposed course of treatment being by definition illogical?

It’s worth trying to cure because nature. Because nature, you must go back to nature. And break your back digging rotting turnips out of the ground, then collapse exhausted in your unheated teepee on a matress of straw.

Your tithe (which we have to set at 80% in the interests of equality) will continue to pay for your betters to fly to global warming conferences.

  3. Climate change has always been used by the left as an excuse to bring about their lefty economic ideas. The idea of a ‘neo-liberal’ solution must be a fucking nightmare for them.

  4. If the IPCC is correct, then it’s true that there isn’t a neo-liberal solution. In fact tthere isn’t a neocon solution or a neo marxist solution or a neo- or non-neo- political solution.

The reason for this is that according to the IPCC the problem is Global Warming and the solution is therefore Global and for seventeen years and more they have been trying to get some sort of cobbled together agreement to begin to examine possible ways to mitigate the problem with no success whatsoever.

Even if they do get the likes of the BRICs and Russians to sign up to some agreement and to actually start implementing it, as soon as things start to bite economically these, and many other coutries, will start cheating.

No, the best, smartest, only sensible policy is to scrap the stupid Climate Change Act since, even if the IPCC is correct, our pathetic sacrifices will hardly make a smidgeon of a smidgeon of difference to the temperature in a hundred years time.

If it starts to get warmer and the seas start to rise then our descendants can do what humanity, (and Nature), do very well: adapt.

Meanwhile, if we get a bit of a cold winter and there are a few power cuts and and some factories get shutdown then, if Nigel and his boys* play their cards right and play up the culpability of liblabcon in the stupidity of our energy policy, then next May could bring some rewards.

Kevin B – “Meanwhile, if we get a bit of a cold winter and there are a few power cuts and and some factories get shutdown then, if Nigel and his boys* play their cards right and play up the culpability of liblabcon in the stupidity of our energy policy, then next May could bring some rewards.”

Hard to see how they could fail at this – electricity rationing seems to be on the agenda already. And it won’t be hard to find people to blame:

In an interview ahead of a speech today, energy minister Ed Davey – a Liberal Democrat and Oxford philosophy, politics and economics graduate – said businesses would be “delighted” to be paid to go dark – and said the measures were good value compared to building new power stations.
