Quite so Minister, quite so

Kim Kardashian is an “appalling” role model to young girls and women because her body is “not normal”, a Tory minister has said.

Anna Soubry, a defence minister, said that she has become “obsessed” with Kim Kardashian and browses the news on a daily basis to “find out what she’s up to”.

She told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I’m obsessed with Kim Kardashian, I do try to find out what Kim’s up to. I think she’s the most appalling role model. This is somebody who young girls, women apparently have a role model for to aspire to who has got a body that in my opinion is not a normal body.”

That’s why the obsession, because she’s not got a normal body. It’s almost a caricature of what men find interesting about the female body. More Jessica Rabbit than an actual human being.

But complaining about this is like worrying about Arnie because he’s also a freakish physique. It’s precisely the oddity that produces the fascination.

  1. Why is a Minister of the Crown publicly obsessing about a grotesque in such a personal way? Pointing out that KK is a poor role model, and for more than her body shape, is one thing making a personal statement while in her public persona is quite another.

  2. You find that interesting? I wouldn’t touch her with yours. Now Katie Melua, were not the two of us married to different people …

  3. @BiI, I believe Private Eye have, in their archive, a photo of potential instructional value to middle-aged white males who wish to get it on with exotic, dusky, younger females.
