Just different

Second and third most read stories on one of the nation’s broadsheet newspapers this morning.

The worlds a much better place than it was when I were a lad, less poverty, less war, less hunger and all the rest. It’s also rather different in other ways, isn’t it?

“…unless, like me, you’re one of the women who can experience female ejaculation.”

Certainly heads my list for information I didn’t need to acquire today.

But Tom’s right. In the Germanic sense. The world’s full of children. Totally self centered in that temper tantrum toddler sort of way

    Yeah. Tried anagramming it. Zilch.

There’s a certain sort of young, middle class female seems to get their names out a box not usually accessible to normal human beings. I’d always assumed Pixie Lott was made up. But a relative’s daughter was at school with her.

  3. Lux – her parents were obviously tax avoidance obsessives. I presume she has a brother Monaco and sister Bermuda?

  4. Well, the media is certainly massively different. Every media outlet these days is now dominated by thirty-something metropolitan cock-ends. Good thing or a bad thing?

  5. Definitely better. I’m not old enough to remember when homosexuals got locked up for horizontal jogging, but having to be 21 was stupid. And when hardcore porn was illegal.

We’re now celebrating a much-loved and homosexual celebrity getting married and what hardcore porn we can legally produce in the UK (I get the impression that most of the old UK industry produces stuff in Czech Republic now).

  6. The Telegraph is on its way out. I’ve said it before, but there’s scope for a serious right wing newspaper which doesn’t bither itself with celeb trivia and treats its readers like adults.

Currently the DT seems to have decided to go down in a blaze of glory. The amusing thing will be when the likes of Hodges, Riddell and Deacon get laid off and find that having a lot of followers on Twitter doesn’t pay well.

    Stigler
There is an intermediate stage between jailing gays and pretending they’re awesome, which is just accepting that people are people and letting them live their lives..

Who on earth cares about female ejaculation enough to argue that it exists, either way? People with a mental age of about fourteen I’d suggest.

  7. Stig-

They’re trying to ban hardcore porn again and it was never actually legalised. The fierce censorship rules by the BBFC were simply relaxed in 2000 due to a bizarre cock-up in which somebody appealed, the BBFC’s appeals body- a barely used, and basically honorary committee containing the likes of Clare Rayner- sided with the appellant and the BBFC took its own committee to court, and lost. Thus forcing the situation in which one day in 2000 I sat with glee looking at the BBFC’s website and its starchy statement that it would now allow “penetration by penis, finger and dildo”, chuckling at the thought of Andreas Whittam Smith dictating that to his secretary.

Meanwhile in our “kinder” society we are throwing elderly men in jail for uncorroborated sexual activity up to 60 years ago- I remember one of the cases that alerted me that something was seriously of the rails was one I happened across in a local newspaper website of a man who was, at the time of the supposed assault, himself only 14, in 1966- the wrong thing said on Twitter gets you arrested, the media is full of wave after wave of moral panics run by vicious cohorts like organised Feminism and a man was immolated in the street to chants of “paedo”.

Kinder? No. Nasty to different people to the old days, that’s all.

  8. Was #3 published in the print edition too, or only online? I can imagine some awkward conversations around the family breakfast table.

  9. Interested-

Well, at the moment that would include the government and various censorship groups who have decided it should be illegal to see it. That’s the kind of insanity that puritan-progressive society produces. And indeed, much like being ruled by fourteen year olds.

  10. ‘Lux Alptraum’

Does this mean Luxembourg Nightmare perhaps or is it a disobliging reference to J-C Juncker?

The Murph was slightly teased about this here

  11. Interested,

I don’t really see it as “intermediate”, just that any sort of state intervention where it isn’t needed is wrong, as long as you have a functioning market supplying people. In fact, I think the best solution is to let the bigots do what they like and let their competitors get the trade. Correcting their bigotry helps their business to do the more business-like thing.

  12. Ian B,

I’m not saying it’s perfect, and in some ways, yes, things get worse. For instance, I hate how people today think they can tell private businesses what they can do, how schools and swimming pools don’t allow parents to take photographs of their kids, how pubs have been ruined by smoking bans.

Yes, I meant in personal behaviour really. I’m not anti-gay, I’m not pro-gay, I’m in the middle – I basically couldn’t care less. In that sense, I’m intermediate.

I would love to see ‘No blacks No gays No Irish’ signs back on businesses (if they were ever really widespread) – just like I’m in favour of Nazi uniforms, or Islamists nutters flying the ISIS flag on their council house in Burnley. (For the stupid, it makes it easier to spot them.)
