Chuka really is an idiot

Labour believes Britain’s economy should be more like that of France because its workers are “more productive”.

Chuka Umunna, the shadow business secretary, said that workers in France do as much work in four days as British workers do in a week.

That’s easy
to do if you just throw the least productive 10% of the working population out of the labour force. Which is what they do do.

  1. Well, of course French workers are more productive: far more of them work for the state, and for some bizarre reason we consider merely turning up in the morning makes a state employee productive.

Try looking at what they actually produce.

  2. said that workers in France do as much work in four days as British workers do in a week.

Oh, and he’s obviously never attended a meeting in France. It would take them about four days to finish the slides they prepared for a half-day presentation.

  3. I’m sure they wouldn’t wish to copy the French healthcare system – too many private providers, and a system of State and Private insurance. Goes against their religion, that…

    and

“just throw the least productive 10% of the working population out of the labour force”

would you not have to throw out the least productive 20%, and that is assuming that they have zero productivity ?

I seriously doubt that the French worker is fully 25% more productive than the British worker.
Wiki has this page, not sure how useful it is in determining fundamental productivity.
