I like retro synthy stuff quite a lot, but could never warm to Soft Cell. It’s Almonds voice – I just find it utterly histrionic.
Not sure the clarinet was a good choice either TBH. But, horses, courses, etc.

I’m with Tim all the way here. This song is far more authentic than Tainted Love and reflects the band’s identity perfectly. And I am a big fan of Marc Almond’s voice.

Marc Almond is tremendous. His Scott Walker covers are great as well.
Each to their own, but in my opinion it is complete and utter bollocks.
David Gray is fine, but Marc Almond was meant for this song. He oozes a mixture of sleaze and wistfulness.
It’s crap.
From that era I prefer Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat.
