Well, yes, I’m sure women are very grateful

“I am a feminist because I love women and I am ready to fight for women. I am a feminist because I am proud to be a woman, and I am passionate about making the world a better place for women. I am a feminist because a lot of amazing women have made me the woman I am today. I am inspired by women every day, as friends and as colleagues.

Stunningly good looking woman with enormous gazongas who marries a billionaire.

Absolutely the epitomy of feminism that.

Mmmm… Nice gazongas but hardly enormous. Not if one’s using a latina benchmark.

  2. A physically attractive woman indeed. However I suspect that attempting to be married to or live with her would prove to be a passion-killing experience.

I once heard the experience of trying to have a “relationship” with a Hollywood actress as “being locked up with a troubled woman who has been trained to express herself”.

  3. Her surname is a good one. She’s probably not read the Constitution of Liberty though.

She is certainly not your average downtrodden woman.

  4. ‘Unsisterly though it sounds, I didn’t expect to like Salma Hayek very much.’

That’s the whole problem with these fuckheads.

To believe that it sounds ‘unsisterly’ you have actually to believe that the fact that you have a vagina and she has a vagina means you’re more likely to get along.

Do they live anywhere near the real world?

  5. haha she made her career on the.simple fact she’s attractive to men… and my God is she still attractive. Pretty easy now she has her millions and is pushing 50 to go all feminist. The old lefty argument about pulling up the ladder works well with this one… that said I’d still shag her.

  6. I am a humanist because I love humans and I am ready to fight for humans. I am a humanist because I am proud to be a human, and I am passionate about making the world a better place for humans. I am a humanist because a lot of amazing humans have made me the human I am today. I am inspired by humans every day, as friends and as colleagues.

The woman is thrilled to be a woman. Is she as thrilled to be juvenile?

  7. Grauniad journalist doesn’t like walking in the wind so she pusshes her way into closed/closing cafe and says “my interviewee is a movie star” to get a comfortabnle seat in a cosy cafe while it is closed to normal humans.
    Sense of entitlement?

  8. I’m going to stand up for Ms Hayek.

A stunningly attractive woman in many cultures would get farmed out to some unattractive old geezer to further her family’s interests (eg Asian heritage women in Bradford expected to marry some peasant from the Kashmir with frankly limited UK employment prospects, whatever his individual merits).

Ms Hayek OTOH can say (and has said) : “fuck you, I’m rich and successful, I’m not marrying some goatherder, I will marry someone with serious wedge.”

  9. So Much for Subtlety

Absolutely the epitomy of feminism that.

The more she cries up her feminist credentials, the more she can live with being a complete traditional house wife.

  10. “Stunningly good looking woman with enormous gazongas who marries a billionaire.”

That’s quite a bit unfair to her. Yes, she’s got all that (and it most certainly helped to land that billionaire) but its not as if Salma Hayek is unaccomplished in her own right.

In Hollywood being a good-looking woman doesn’t even help you get in the door – they’re a dime a dozen – and it takes more than looks to be anything other than a star for a year or two before the public gets bored with you.

Agammamon – “That’s quite a bit unfair to her. Yes, she’s got all that (and it most certainly helped to land that billionaire) but its not as if Salma Hayek is unaccomplished in her own right.”

OK. What accomplishments has the gorgeous Ms Hayek done in her own right?

“In Hollywood being a good-looking woman doesn’t even help you get in the door – they’re a dime a dozen – and it takes more than looks to be anything other than a star for a year or two before the public gets bored with you.”

So she starred in a few films with Adam Sandler. And?

  12. “OK. What accomplishments has the gorgeous Ms Hayek done in her own right?”

“So she starred in a few films with Adam Sandler. And?”

Let’s see – 49 movie and 4 recurring tv roles. Producer of at least 3 tv shows in both the US and Mexico.

    Runs her own production company.

Charity work – fundraising for vaccination, against violence against women, discrimination against immigrants.

Recipient of Glamour magazine Woman of the Year Award in October 2001.
Recipient of Producers Guild of America Celebration of Diversity Award in 2003. (pointless award, I’ll grant)
Recipient of Harvard Foundation Artist of the Year Award in February 2006.
Recipient of Time magazine 25 Most Influential Hispanics in 2005.
Knight (Chevalier) of the National Order of the Legion of Honour (France, December 30, 2011)(though I imagine the last has more to do with her husband than anything else)

Basically – she’s super-smart, ambitious *and* hot as hell. Sure, she’s not expanding the frontiers of human knowledge, curing cancer, or stopping wars but she is an accomplished artist and businesswoman.

To be honest, her why I am a feminist blurb *is* stupid but she’s not where she is on looks alone.

  13. @Agamammon,

But she isn’t the fount of all human knowledge and wisdom, so that won’t impress our not so subtle friend.

  14. Also, she’s a woman and a nigger, so obviously doesn’t count. All her so-called “achievements” must be down to white males.

Agammamon – “Let’s see – 49 movie and 4 recurring tv roles. Producer of at least 3 tv shows in both the US and Mexico.”

As you say, there are thousands of starlets who have done with. Not all with big breasts, but hardly calling for the skills of a brain surgeon either.

    “Runs her own production company.”

That is like an unemployed middle manager calling himself a consultant. What has she produced?

“Charity work – fundraising for vaccination, against violence against women, discrimination against immigrants.”

So she has big breasts. So?

“Recipient of Glamour magazine Woman of the Year Award in October 2001.
Recipient of Producers Guild of America Celebration of Diversity Award in 2003. (pointless award, I’ll grant)”

You only call one of these pointless? So she has a publicist who gets her pointless awards which are given, I assume, because the people giving them hope for a leg over. I am surprised she isn’t UN Ambassador for some cause or other.

“Basically – she’s super-smart, ambitious *and* hot as hell. Sure, she’s not expanding the frontiers of human knowledge, curing cancer, or stopping wars but she is an accomplished artist and businesswoman.”

So we are back to her big breasts. You say she is super smart. I will again point out she has not done one little thing to suggest she is clever. Ambitious? Sure. Hot? Absolutely. As we are all agreed. But accomplished she is not. She is just an upmarket dolly bird.

“To be honest, her why I am a feminist blurb *is* stupid but she’s not where she is on looks alone.”

Really? Where is she? A small time actress married to a very wealthy Frenchman.

Bloke in Germany – “But she isn’t the fount of all human knowledge and wisdom, so that won’t impress our not so subtle friend.”

Ahh, it must be sad to have been bullied in school. Such a traumatic event obviously leaves scars. But you are on a site that is over-run by people who were probably picked on for being too smart in school. Calling someone else a girly swot is unlikely to be an insult around here – even though you clearly have scars and think it stings.

You have lost a lot of arguments with someone who is much smarter and better read than you. It happens. Deal with it. Move on.

Bloke in Germany – “Also, she’s a woman and a nigger, so obviously doesn’t count. All her so-called “achievements” must be down to white males.”

What doesn’t count? Her massive collection of awards for having big breasts? Not that I am knocking that. She has got married, twice, to the same man, made him happy or so it seems, and popped a sprog. She has fulfilled her most important role in life. In addition she has contributed to the pleasure of any number of teenage boys. But Einstein she is not.

As for White males, she has contributed nothing to the sum of human knowledge. Nor has Mexico contributed much to be honest. They did invent the gun powder residue test for gun shot investigations. They contributed a lot to country and hence popular music – the guitars are a bit of a clue. And they did invent an early forerunner of the assault rifle – a long time before anyone else actually.

It is not nothing. But it is not on par with one or two colleges in Cambridge is it?

I guess, apparently if you’re not Marie Curie then you’re nothing. I know she’s no Margaret Thatcher but she ain’t just a housewife either.

And it may be that ‘separate by a common language’ thing, but she not a nigger – spic, wetback, beaner, sure. Here, at least, nigger is the derogatory term for people of African/Caribbean descent.

Agammamon – “I guess, apparently if you’re not Marie Curie then you’re nothing. I know she’s no Margaret Thatcher but she ain’t just a housewife either.”

No, she is a housewife with large breasts and a good publicity agent. She has a bunch of awards for turning up, with large breasts, and that is about it.

    How is she anything more?

BiG is venting. No point correcting him.

  19. Luke has a good point and I’m ashamed I didn’t criticise this post, which is not worthy of Tim Worstall. Yes, she is beautiful and married a rich man. Yes she is in the movie biz and has been a model. In the uber- conservative world of radical Islam or in ages past, such things were seen as beyond the pale. She probably holds some dippy leftist views (I don’t know) but I’d rather feminists were successful and unashamed of their beauty than a bunch of miserable types.
