Is it purely a linear question? When I turned 40 and became – seemingly overnight – middle aged, I swopped my sporty two-door motor for a grey, conservative saloon. Then on turning 60 I exchanged the saloon for a sporty two-door model. Do I go back to the saloon when I’m 74?

The oldest baby boomers are not yet 70 as WWII did not end until the summer of 1945.
