Corruption? In The Russian Space Industry? My Word, However Could Anyone…

Think that could be true.

Russian officials have launched an investigation into one of Russia’s most important spaceship builders amid a multi-million pound corruption scandal engulfing the country’s troubled space industry.

The arrest of Dmitry Dyakonov, the director of a firm that provides legal services to the company that builds Russia’s famous Proton and Angara space rockets, followed accusations of misappropriation and embezzlement across the industry that could run into billions of pounds.

My dealings with them were a long time ago and fairly minor but you could see the way the system was moving. Bits and pieces of work were outsourced specifically so as to create the opportunity for a margin to be built in. For a time we organised the import of the rad hard processors they needed for rockets. Lost that to people who were willing to pad for that margin….

Yeah but the corruption goes all the way to the top. Like China and pretty much every other country run by “former” Communists. The corrupt do not persecute other people for being corrupt. So the question is what did he do to get arrested? This looks like an excuse not a reason.

  2. You just knew a Senior Professor of Astronautical Geopolitical Economics would soon be along to show us how much he knows about absolutely everything!

  3. Those involved in corruption anywhere and at any time would hardly find it to their advantage to draw attention to the fact that a milieu of corruption exists in their particular field or in general. Unless you live in Germany this would seem to be an obvious deduction. So unless this cove is the only corrupt character in the Russian rocket industry–somewhat unlikely– SMFS is prob correct to say that he may have blotted his copybook in a manner displeasing to his equally corrupt friends.

Of course it might be suggested that the coppers on his case are the last of Russia’s honest policemen and they caught him fair and square. Comedy is, however, not my forte as many previous posts will have demonstrated.

  4. SMFS. The current corrupt cunt running China has used allegations of corruption to rid himself of people he didn’t like and replace them with other corrupt cunts he does like. Happened big time here in Dongguan last year. They don’t give a shit.

Bloke in Germany – “You just knew a Senior Professor of Astronautical Geopolitical Economics would soon be along to show us how much he knows about absolutely everything!”

    You’re welcome.

Again why do you think that a criticism of someone for being too smart is going to go down well on a blog read almost entirely by people who were beaten up for being nerds in school? You have some lingering wounds that can’t be healed any other way?

Mr Ecks – “So unless this cove is the only corrupt character in the Russian rocket industry–somewhat unlikely– SMFS is prob correct to say that he may have blotted his copybook in a manner displeasing to his equally corrupt friends.”

The Russians have failed in one or two of their recent launches. Maybe that is it? Corruption is OK, even on an epic scale, as with the Sochi Games, but there has to be a result?

Dongguan John – “The current corrupt cunt running China has used allegations of corruption to rid himself of people he didn’t like and replace them with other corrupt cunts he does like. Happened big time here in Dongguan last year. They don’t give a shit.”

Yeah. I guess that is how it is going to work. It is amazing how similar former Communist countries are. You can dissolve the party, but you can’t dissolve the moral corruption it leaves behind. He will probably declare himself whatever the Chinese equivalent of Turkmenbashi is.

  6. Corruption. The US education industry pays a copyright fee to Zaner-Bloser (a private company) to use their script in educational material. For the uninitiated, Zaner-Bloser script looks like Arial, and is entirely unrelated to how people actually write.

Amongst many free alternatives to Zaner-Bloser, there are two (Young Reader and MS Comic Sans) which are easy to read, easy for children to reproduce, and lead in from printing to cursive writing. These two styles (plus D’Nealian) are bitterly resisted by US teachers on the grounds that “we weren’t taught this way”.

Zaner-Bloser is a shit script, is a barrier to education, is totally unrelated to how people write, and profits from the US education system monopoly. It’s not only the Commies and ex-Commies who are corrupt.

  7. Bloke in Germany

I guess that is it. If you ignore the clash of worldviews (though I think they are more similar than you would credit, except you take yours through the lens of white supremacy), the main difference is that one of us couches our slightly-above-averagely-informed opinions as such, the other issues them ex-cathedra.

Do I? I would ask for evidence of that, but it is clearly so dear to your world view that it would be pointless.

“the main difference is that one of us couches our slightly-above-averagely-informed opinions as such, the other issues them ex-cathedra.”

Whatever my opinions are, they are not slight above average. And my opinions are usually clearly marked as opinions. But if your problem is basically one of presentation, well, OK. It has nothing to do with the Russian space agency though.
