The gentlemen in Washington seem to genuinely believe that if they measure their penises in picas they’ll all be Jonah Falcon — in reality, their interns won’t notice any difference.

Quite so, quite so.

  1. The ‘rub Cleveland off the map’ analogy has converted me to the minimum wage and price fixing in general: I mean, you gotta try haven’t ya.

  2. What an excellent article and why don’t we get more of this on the BBC, say, which is supposed to Inform Educate and Entertain (of which this article manages all three, the BBC rarely manages one)?

I think we are missing the point. The issue is not what Bernie Sanders’ idiotic economics are – he is a socialist. We know his economics are idiotic.

Nor is that he is a weird and creepy sexual pervert. He is, as I said, a socialist. Goes with the territory. The real question is how he can claim things like:

“A man goes home and masturbates his typical fantasy,” wrote Sanders. “A woman on her knees. A woman tied up. A woman abused.”

    oe

“A woman enjoys intercourse with her man–as she fantasizes about being raped by 3 men simultaneously.”

More to the point, the question is how can he claim these things are true – and yet the media are refusing to ask him any questions about it. Now suppose that Arnold Schwartzenegger had said that. Or Rick Santorum. Or Mitt Romney.

    Yeah. Right.

  4. I’m coming to the view that Kevin D Williamson is the best writer currently operating in the English language.

Interested – “I’m coming to the view that Kevin D Williamson is the best writer currently operating in the English language.”

    F**k yeah.

Thirded. One of my proudest moments was when he liked My Famous Blog. (Yes, I had a famous blog. Have you heard?)

    I’m just glad he’s not a socialist.

  7. Bloke in Costa Rica

He’s not saying anything of the sort. He’s saying that the dollar/euro/pound/cowry shell price you put on something is an arbitrary marker for its value and that rejigging the rate does not alter that value. It’s a truism that, lamentably, most Leftists seem unable to grasp.

I do not know who Jonah Falcon is and I am afraid to Google him.

Gunker – “Ask and ye shall receive”

So they are saying his weird views are fine because he votes the right way in Congress? And that, you know, it was the 70s.

No double standard at all I suppose.

  9. BiCR: I don’t understand what distinction you’re making. I thought he was saying that the exchange rate between “six months’ work washing dishes and six months’ tuition at the University of Texas” is fixed by the market, and would not change if you changed the dollar price of washing dishes. Which implies that if you change the dollar price of washing dishes, the dollar price of university tuition must change proportionately.

  10. “Which implies that if you change the dollar price of washing dishes, the dollar price of university tuition must change proportionately.”

No, it sure doesn’t. It does imply that less dish washing labor will be consumed, though.

  11. Bloke in Costa Rica

All else being equal, the ratio of the cost between dishwashing and university tuition will remain constant, no matter what arbitrary units you measure them in.

Quite. Not for the first time, our own SJW is not half as smart as he thinks he is.
