Isn’t Europe all about democracy?

Umm, no Joe, it ain’t.

That’s why all the power rests in the not-elected Commission. To the point that the Parliament cannot even introduce a bill into its own deliberations.

The one thing Europe isn’t about is democracy.

  1. The Commission is chosen by the democratically elected governments of member states. One doesn’t vote for a Chancellor or a Minister for Transport either…

    i.e. the European people can’t chuck it out at the next election & hence it acts without restraint.

    Constituents / electors / voters don’t vote for Chancellor or a Minister for Transport ; the PM appoints.

    The blurb encouraging people to apply used to boast about how fast-track eurocrats can shape policy. Of course, you need to be tuned to the groupthink, and good at scampering up that greasy pole.
