Overcompensate much?

And Fox News is there to distract us from this immorality, this hypocrisy. Instead, Megyn Kelly, Steve Doocy and others tell us that the Duggars are being persecuted by secular liberals who merely hate Christians. Nonsense. In the real world, the Duggars are under fire for being horrible people who have exploited their faith and their celebrity in the name of marginalizing American citizens simply because of who those citizens love, while simultaneously whitewashing a stupendously hideous crime.

Stupendously hideous crime.

Umm, as far as I know, a 14 year old Josh Duggar touched his sisters’ breasts and maybe elsewhere. To the point that they didn’t know he had done. Not that I approve of this sort of behaviour but along that spectrum of playing doctors and nurses, sticking pebbles inside your sister’s genitalia, asking if we can still call him Bruce, to the Holocaust I’d be rather more sparing of the stupendous and the hideous myself.

But then I’m not a foot soldier in America’s culture wars so what do I know?

  1. How about hideous, but not stupendously hideous? Playing doctors and nurses with your sister isn’t normal where I come from. Playing doctors and nurses at 14 isn’t normal where I come from either (i.e. it’s rather more than doctors and nurses by that age).

I can’t quite bring myself to regard the fact that these might be normal in parts of the USA or the west country as making it non-hideous. Absent consent it’s still sexual assault, which if committed against a non family member could easily result in major life-changing trouble for the 14 year old male. As such a competent parent would ensure it never happened again.

So basically we are still with rape-rape being fine if it is an upstanding leftist like Roman Polanski. Much less sticking objects up your sisters vagina if you are that woman who looks like a fat fourteen year old boy. Not fine if you are a conservative Christian. It is all who whom with them.

To quote Instapundit once more, it is a good thing they have double standards otherwise they would have no standards at all.

Indeed. When I was 14 I was too busy trying (and miserably failing) to cop off with girls from the sixth form.

I liked the bad girls who smoked cigarettes and mouthed off at teachers and got detention. The ones my Mum warned me about. They, sad to say, didn’t like skinny 14 year olds with spots and a school uniform that looked like it had been found in a bin.

I know “keep it in the family” is an old saying, but sounds like this chap took it too far.

    ‘Norfolk discussions’..?

  5. Tim: Did you miss the part where she was five years old at the time? A 14 year old trying to finger his five year old sister is pretty sick in my book, regardless of the political affiliation of their parents.

  6. I’d settle for a reasonable prison sentence in good conditions with rehabilitation programmes.

Matthew L – “I’d settle for a reasonable prison sentence in good conditions with rehabilitation programmes.”

Pixie dust in other words. There isn’t much you can do for criminals that age. Look at the Bulgar killers for instance. Certainly prison is not going to help many 14 year olds.

  8. @Interested,

Just great how he spelt it. SMFS is truly unbarleyvable – his ignorance is so amaizeing I could crye.
