Ain’t Valenti dumb?

Words matter. When we dehumanize people – when we call them demons, monsters, and murderers – we make it easier for others to do them harm. Let’s not pretend that we don’t know that.

How we talk about abortion matters. We know it, and anti-choice extremists and politicians know it.

Yup, when we talk about babies as being “blastocysts”, “embryos”, “mere clumps of cells”, “not viable”, “not humans” we make it easier for others to do them harm.

Jesus but Valenti’s a dumb bint.

  1. Yep, words matter. Labelling people who disagree with you “Anti-choice extremists” makes it easier hate them doesn’t it.

  2. Ironic given that rag is no slouch in the labelling dept.

    Tories = vermin
    UKIP = evil, racist scum

    And the most hated of all;

    Anti-Corbyn Labour MP’s = Splitters!

  3. “As we find out more about the shooter, people will claim – as they often do – that he was a lone wolf, that he was mentally unstable and that he isnot at all representative of those who disagree with abortion. Republican politicians will eventually take great pains to condemn the shooter’s attack, while ignoring all of the lies, language and culture of misogyny that contributes to this kind of violence”

So you want it.both ways: you want an end to the language.some use when describing abortionists AND you want to label those who disagree with you as being, at best, apologists for murder.

You’re a real piece of work Girl.

  4. As we find out more about the shooter, people will claim – as they often do – that he was a lone wolf, that he was mentally unstable and that he is not at all representative of those who…

    …practice Islam?

    Sorry, wrong topic.

  5. Quite right Tim.

I’m 100% pro choice and use such language but quite happy to let those opposite use their language. After all if I believed it was a human entitled to life I’d be quite colourful and angry with my words in protest too.

She however is a hypocrite and a cretin

  6. “saying that all men hate all women and want to rape, abuse and kill them is fine.”

Good thing nobody apart from a tiny, tiny lunatic fringe of edgy teenagers is saying that then.

  7. According to an anonymous police source, after Friday’s attack on the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood, the alleged perpetrator made a comment in its wake about “no more baby parts”.

    Seems legit.

    He specifically targeted the facility.

Strangely though, he didn’t kill any abortionists. Contrary to Valenti, it’s actually not at all clear what motivated Robert Dear Jr. to go on a shooting spree, other than the fact that he’s a crazy man with a history of violence:

others said that he seemed to be delusional and aggressive. He had a history of run-ins with neighbors and police, including arrests for alleged cruelty to animals and allegedly being a “peeping Tom.”

    […]

“He complained about everything,” said another neighbor who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity, saying that he feared for his security. “He said he worked with the government, and everybody was out to get him, and he knew the secrets of the U.S.A. He said, ‘Nobody touch me, because I’ve got enough information to put the whole U.S. of A in danger.’ It was very crazy.”
    – The Washington Post.

The attack in Colorado, which left three people dead and nine wounded, was shocking, but it was also the predictable result of a culture that demonizes abortion

The USA has liquidated 40 million unborn children in the past 40 years – the majority at taxpayers’ expense.

If this is a culture that “demonizes abortion”, I’d hate to see one that celebrates it.

But, to be on the safe side, let’s assume Robert Lewis Dear Jr. was driven to murder by abortion.

The precautionary principle mandates that abortion should be banned, to prevent further tragedies of this type.

“Words matter. When we dehumanize people – when we call them demons, monsters, murderers and climate deniers

    That’s better.

  9. Tim Newman’s point occurred to me too and quite a few of us I’m sure. She is operating double standards: you must not say that a mad Muslim with a machete or assault rifle is representative of muslims (quite right), but I will feel free to apply the logic instead to pro-life campaigners. Cos it’s obvious isn’t it. Can’t you see?

  10. “Good thing nobody apart from a tiny, tiny lunatic fringe of edgy teenagers is saying that then.”

    Oh really.

The old bags in the femmi-establishment have been saying it for decades –and the only way they will ever be teenagers again is re-incarnation. Valenti is no teenager–nor are most of the poisonous leaders of feminism.

  11. Good thing nobody apart from a tiny, tiny lunatic fringe of edgy teenagers is saying that then.

And every significant Feminist organisation, group and individual, because that is the fundamental predicate of Feminist theory. Otherwise known as the “only a tiny lunatic fringe of Nazis want to kill the Jews” apologetic.

  12. No, “straw feminism” is a slogan used by feminists who wish to deny the truth about their movement. As I’ve often said, I’ve read the books.

Read Catharine Mackinnon’s “Towards A Feminist Theory Of The State” (which is the template for modern feminist legalism as implemented) and then try to tell me I’m wrong.

    @David Moore

You’re quite right to label The Guardian a rag, but seriously deluded if you think it’s in any way pro-Corbyn. It’s the house journal of the Labour right; Blairites and SDP types like Polly.

  14. I think everyone should be very careful how they choose to respond to Wichsmeller. As I have found our little commissar here wears the same pretty cap as Comrade Corbyn and drops the pretence of civility very quickly indeed when challenged. Thus you will find you will be told you need to “mind your fucking manners” which is not a threat you understand, but simply a “statement of what will happen”.
Anyway, welcome back to the blog you little marxo-fascist, try to remember that the writ of Unite and Momentum doesn’t run here.

  15. Steve: “… another neighbor who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity, saying that he feared for his security</b.. "

Ummm, why? It’s highly unlikely the shooter will get out.

  16. “Read Catharine Mackinnon’s “Towards A Feminist Theory Of The State” (which is the template for modern feminist legalism as implemented) and then try to tell me I’m wrong.”

    You’re wrong.

  17. I have actually read the whole book Matthew, several times, in order to fully understand her philosophy. I’m not basing my view on a few internet quotes.

And if you read the book, you will find the legal template for modern feminism, and its justification. I’m not even talking about porn; Mackinnon’s views on the legal constructions and processes around rape, harrassment and the objective vs. subjective are far more significant. The anti-porn stuff is just an application of her theoretical model.

In terms of implementation, Mackinnon is the most significant feminist of the second wave, who drew together the ideas and granted them an (apparently) solid theoretical base, particularly in terms of legal application. If you understand her (and it’s not clear if you breeze through her writing, you need to have your thinking cap on) you understand most of what you need to understand modern feminism in application.

You can’t understand any significant thinker with a few quotes.

Poor Ironman. Still smarting from the verbal kicking he got weeks ago. I don’t need any welcome from you Rustyboy, I’ve been reading this blog long enough to know you’re about as well-liked here as a dog turd.

  19. JuliaM – dunno, but it seems he’s been known as a nutter and potentially violent oddball for a long time. Maybe the neighbours are afraid he’ll get off with a few years in a mental hospital. Or maybe he comes from a family of loonies.

  20. Dog turd. Hmm.

As I was saying, this is how Witchsmeller, in common with a very high percentage of the online Corbynista fraternity, handles discussion. This immediate dive for the potty is regarded in Witchsmleer’s circles as “passion”.

  21. Well you keep hiding from imaginary feminists accusing you of rape then, Ian. Here in reality, mainstream feminism absolutely does not hold that “all men hate all women and want to rape, abuse and kill them”.

It’s like you’re living in a 1970s Marxist academic’s office or something. The world, and feminism, has moved on.

  22. You never have a good answer, Matthew. Your denialist apologetics just fall flat. Trying to portray the core of the movement as a fringe is not working.

  23. The label “feminism” has been attached to all sorts of areas that have nothing to do with the Marxist evil that is its origin.

Just because lots of ordinary women use the word every day–mainly thanks to its omnipresence in the media–does not mean that the have they slightest idea of the depths of the evil from which it springs and to which it aspires.

The same is true of the millions of mugs who spout “I am a socialist” without realising what that means. Every time they say it the following should happen:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldFAhhtUk1k

Might bring the truth home to them.

  24. That’s because your statements are so ludicrous that it would take hours to walk you through why. I’m simply not that invested.

  25. All True Feminists believe that “…all men hate all women and want to rape, abuse and kill them…”

Therefore any woman who seems not to believe this is either dissembling or not a True Feminist.

Therefore all True Feminists believe it.

Therefore Matthew L’s denialist apologetics fall flat.

Klavan’s First Rule of Mainstream Media Reporting:

Whenever the prejudices and illusions of left-wingers are confirmed by an individual incident, the incident is treated as representative; when those prejudices and illusions are contradicted, the incident is considered an aberration — and treating it as representative is deemed hateful.

What does the Associated Press have to say about the incident?

‘Colorado Springs police have declined to disclose any information on the motive for the attack, and a judge has ordered the sealing of investigatory court documents at the request of prosecutors….

A law enforcement official said Dear told authorities “no more baby parts” after being arrested, part of a rambling statement that investigators were parsing to understand the reasoning.

The official said the “no more baby parts” comment was among a number of statements Dear made to authorities after his arrest, making it difficult to know his specific motivation….

Planned Parenthood said witnesses believe the gunman was motivated by his opposition to abortion.

Suthers, however, said it’s unclear whether the shooting was intended to send an ideological message.

“That may or may not be the case here. We just have to see how things unravel,” he said.’

PS, Tim. Please, oh, please, bring back the preview function, or ask some web-savvy commenter to sort it our on your behalf. I’m beggin’ ya.

Seriously? Come on people. Pretending to be someone else in order to mock their views is not nice.

  28. Interesting thought she has had there, very deep, maybe she should think of a label for it, some word to encapsulate it….how about, I don’t know, maybe…..propaganda

Maybe if she does some in depth research she can find instances of this in places like the bible or other really old documents

  29. “Narrative Wrestling”. A good phrase. I prefer one read some years ago: “climbing over the bodies to plant their flag”.

  30. So Much For Subtlety

Social Justice Warrior – “Therefore Matthew L’s denialist apologetics fall flat.”

No, his apologetics fall flat because he is not really trying. He doesn’t give a damn. He knows what he knows and believes what he believes and does not feel the need to justify either.

  31. “I have actually read the whole book Matthew, several times, in order to fully understand her philosophy.”

Do you want a cookie then? It’s like saying that you’ve read all about the luminiferous aether and therefore understand physical optics. Feminism has moved past those concepts, which were *at best* a minority rabbit-hole that some academics dived down. Mainstream feminism is entirely comfortable co-existing with men, as you’d find out if you ever listened to an actual feminist.

  32. “Bollocks. You’re getting actual feminism mixed up with straw feminism.”

Right – so that’s why the DPP is recommending that the law be changed so that when a man and a women get drunk together and have sex, the man is a rapist as the woman can’t consent.

Oh yes this is feminist equality in action.

And Ironman – you’re significantly less welcome here than a dog turd.

  33. “Right – so that’s why the DPP is recommending that the law be changed so that when a man and a women get drunk together and have sex, the man is a rapist as the woman can’t consent.”

That’s actually gender neutral – men who are too drunk to consent will be protected as well.

And yes, it is entirely a feminist thing to want people prosecuted for taking advantage of someone who’s too drunk to give consent. The fact that it’s mostly discussed as “drunk woman, rapist man” is due to the fact that it mostly happens that way.
