Ben Carson’s Entirely Right About Pyramids Being Grain Stores: Just Entirely Wrong About How

  1. While not as dim as the Congressman who thought that posting more marines to Guam might make the island capsize, it’s still pretty bloody dim.

You could argue that it’s no dimmer than such leftie anti-science as Global Warmongering, and the belief that evolution of humans stopped about 60,000 years ago. And you could certainly argue that the pyramidal nonsense could do far less harm than those two leftie nonsenses, but nonsense it remains.

dearieme – “And you could certainly argue that the pyramidal nonsense could do far less harm than those two leftie nonsenses, but nonsense it remains.”

But the alternative is Hillary. I don’t care if he wants to sacrifice virgins on the White House lawn. He is one of the better candidates of recent times.

Everyone believes some nonsense. This is hardly the worst.

  3. Bloke no Longer in Austria

… the Congressman who thought that posting more marines to Guam might make the island capsize

That was meant to be a joke, though.

  4. So we now know that a person can be an eminent brain surgeon with minimal knowledge of a long dead civilisation. Perhaps that gap in his knowledge won’t affect his performance as president either? After all the present incumbent did say that he had visited all 57 states- a far more relevant mistake surely.
By the way has anyone examined Hilary on her understanding of ancient civilisations?

  5. It’s nonsense, but nonsense about an entirely unimportant issue. It doesn’t matter what he thinks about the pyramids but it would be useful to ask how his religious views inform his positions on more topical subjects.

  6. Have to agree with SMFS

Hilary Clinton would be an unmitigated disaster on every count – Carson has some quixotic beliefs but he is hardly alone on that score!

You should watch that video. It looks more like he just woke up suddenly than was making a joke.

  8. If I were a septic tank I think I’d be pointing out that no fucker completely understands the origins and purpose of the pyramids and I would give precisely no shits about Carson’s understanding of those issues. I’d be interested in whether he was likely to prove a complete cunt at running the country, or not. He seems like a decent bloke, he’s obviously got plenty upstairs, he’s not Hillary, or Trump, so he’d do for me.

(One of the great sadnesses of modern life is that I saw the pyramids aged fifteen and I don’t think I’d take my kids to see them now.)

Agree completely. What is even worse is these islamist vandals who seem intent on the destruction of every symbol of ancient civilisations so that they are permanently lost to the future. If they ever got here, Stonehenge etc would be blown up asap. These are crimes against humanity and the whole of humanity needs to take them seriously by bombing the fvck out of every last man-jack of the cvnts.

  10. On Carson, John Derbyshire covered this perfectly years ago:

My ideal nursing-home attendant, auto mechanic, or President would be a cheerful, capable, well-motivated person who was thoroughly au courant with the theory of evolution — and indeed with all the most recent advances in astronomy, biochemistry, cosmology, dendrochronology, endochrinology, fluviology, geomorphology, hydrodynamics, ichthyology, jurisprudence, kinesiology, limnology, microbiology, neuropathology, ophthalmology, psychometrics, quantum chromodynamics, rocket science, seismology, trichology, urology, virology, wiretapping, xenodocheionology, yachting and zoology.

Life, however, often consists of making a choice between unsatisfactory alternatives. Invited to choose between having my kids educated, my car fixed, or my elderly relatives cared for by (a) people of character, spirit and dedication who believe in pseudoscience, or (b) unionized, time-serving drudges who believe in real science, which would I choose? Invited to choose between a President who is (a) a patriotic family man of character and ability who believes the universe was created on a Friday afternoon in 4004 b.c. with all biological species instantly represented, or (b) an amoral hedonist and philanderer who “loathes the military” but who believes in the evolution of species via natural selection across hundreds of millions of years, which would I choose? Are you kidding?

  11. Oh dear. There’s a hint of Richie about that Forbes article. PQE for infrastructure jobs, an all that.
It now seems very unlikely peasants built the pyramids. Because us professionals do this stuff so much better. And it didn’t take a great many of us to do it. It being our jobs, ‘n that.
They weren’t even particularly big contracts. Not compared with some of the other work got done, back then.

  12. Still strikes me as odd that they would destroy evidence and symbols of the development of culture in their area rather than taking pride in how they were more advanced and developed so much stuff than us heather barbarians

  13. “heather barbarians”

I assume this is a ref to us Scots. I thought your preferred term for us was demented porridge wogs?

  14. Bloke no Longer in Austria

“That was meant to be a joke, though.” What makes you say so?

Because it’s the sort of thing I’d say.

  15. Looks like Carson is toast: he’s admitted to lying that he got a West Point scholarship, with doubt cast about some of his other personal history.

  16. @BF – yes, for some reason the destruction of those monuments upsets me more than the killing of people. Not that I wouldn’t personally bayonet every one of the fuckers for the people, too.

@GD – has he admitted ‘lying’? That’s the way the Dem media are spinning it but the truth sounds (AFAIK) like half a story badly told, not much more.

  17. So Much For Subtlety

Pat – “Perhaps that gap in his knowledge won’t affect his performance as president either? …. By the way has anyone examined Hilary on her understanding of ancient civilisations?”

The mainstream media is going to protect their candidate by going all in on Carson soon. We will see how he stands up to it. Romney did not do well.

Why would some odd views about Egypt affect his performance as President? Gladstone believed some odd things. He was a fine Prime Minister. I would think that in the past, the more likely a President was to believe in the literal nature of the Biblical stories about Egypt, the better a President he was.

But what is interesting about this is that no one asks the Democrats these sort of questions. No one will even ask Hilary when she thinks an abortion term-limit should be. Because we know whatever she answers will annoy her voting base and so the media thinks she needs to be protected. If she says seven months, she will annoy the Democratic Party’s base. If she says what she probably believes – that abortion should be free right up to and including once the mother has gone into labour – she will disgust most normal people. So no questions.

This is just part of the mainstream media’s efforts to disqualify anyone they do not like. They should be ignored.

  18. “no one asks the Democrats these sort of questions”: well of course; that’s axiomatic. It’s perfectly obvious that Hitlery should be in jail. But I assume it’s odds on that she’ll be the next prez.

  19. Philip Scott Thomas

    GlenDorran:

Looks like Carson is toast: he’s admitted to lying that he got a West Point scholarship, with doubt cast about some of his other personal history.

The story seems, unsurprisingly, to have originated with Politico. There is another interpretation here.

  20. So Much For Subtlety

dearieme – “It’s perfectly obvious that Hitlery should be in jail. But I assume it’s odds on that she’ll be the next prez.”

I agree. But notice the bias. The mainstream media ruled questions about what Obama believed out of order when it came to Jeremy Wright. No one has asked Hilary when was the last time she was in a Church. No one has asked if her, and Obama’s, persistent, habitual, non-attendance means they do not believe. No one has asked if she thinks Jenner is a woman or when he became a woman. No one has even asked her what she thinks about Catholic schools.

No issue that might divide the Democratic voter base is allowed. Any bullsh!t that might hurt a Republican is. No one asked Obama what dog tasted like for instance, but they did go over every possible incident of Romney’s High School career. But now it turns out the Black guy’s private religious beliefs do matter.

The only way to win this game is refuse to play it. TW should not post these sorts of articles. The only articles worth posting are those pointing out the outrageous bias and double standards of the mainstream media.

  21. SMFS – Agreed. Hilary is a soulless cunt, so perfect for the Democrats. Problem is the Republicans are also wankers.

I would just like to see the Trump express go all the way. Can you imagine the debates????

  22. you would think a professional politician on manoeuvres in hostile territory would be able to dead bat bullshit like this with ease. Even if you can’t, just say “i don’t know”.

How many votes would you lose by saying “I don’t know” to a question about the purpose of the Pyramids? Two?

  23. Tim,
On the basis of your theory of conscripts paid in grain (actually feeding slaves would have a pretty similar economic impact), the pyramids are not a grain store but the mirror image – they represent the consumption of grain during the seven lean years.
But, as various people say, Carson’s views on the pyramids only matter to fans of “Stargate” – he remains overwhelmingly preferable to Trump or Mrs Clinton.

  24. So Much For Subtlety

GlenDorran – “Looks like Carson is toast: he’s admitted to lying that he got a West Point scholarship, with doubt cast about some of his other personal history.”

Politico is already backing off its claims. It doesn’t look like he lied to me. And it is beside the point. When the Dems accuse another candidate of f**king pigs, you only play their game by denying it. They are bottom feeding scum and nothing they have to say is of any interest at all.

Still it is nice, as Allahpundit has said, that we finally have a Black candidate that the media is willing to vet. Wouldn’t it have been nice if they had been willing to read Obama’s autobiography? Or checked his college marks?

  25. @ SMFS
“Politico is already backing off its claims.” But their smear will have been read and passed on to people who will never be told that it’s a lie.

  26. Still strikes me as odd that they would destroy evidence and symbols of the development of culture in their area rather than taking pride in how they were more advanced and developed

The things they are destroying are not “theirs” in any meaningful way, which is why they care so little for them.

Petra was only ever right on the edge of any arab reach, and the culture they are destroying is not arabic, but Greco-Roman. And very not Islamic, which is more important to them.

Europe has very few large neolithic monuments because the locals actively destroyed them. (In parts of France they survived in large numbers until the Counter-Reformation. That’s what getting that old-time religion will do to people.) Nor does much Roman architecture survive, because despite venerating them, the locals used their large buildings as quarries of ready-made stone. The Chinese rubbed out all evidence of local Buddhism too.

Isis is not the exception here. Western culture is.

  27. What’s disturbing about Carson’s remarks is that he allowed himself to wander into fruitcake territory – during the campaign. The problem is not that he holds some fruitcake opinions – many people do – but that he doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut.

  28. In the midst of all this, I’d love to know what the locals think about ISIL’s demolition spree. Wouldn’t surprise me if, to them, that ancient temple’s just a pain in the neck & a waste of good farming land & building materials. Bit like our attitude when some shabby bit of 60’s Stalinalia gets a Listed Building status put on it.

  29. BTW, anyone here ever played Sid Meier’s Civilization? There the Pyramids acts as a granary for all cities in the entire civilization (until development of some medieval technology).

  30. SMFS

“But the alternative is Hillary. I don’t care if he wants to sacrifice virgins on the White House lawn. He is one of the better candidates of recent times. Everyone believes some nonsense. This is hardly the worst.”

You could have substituted ‘Ed Milliband’ for ‘Hillary’ and ‘Cameron’ for ‘he’…in late 2014 and early 2015.

  31. Why does anyone care about Carson, he’s a weak candidate. Hopefully Trump will be the nominee – he’s the only one with a chance of beating Clinton and reversing the Mexicanisation of the US.
