Well, this puts minds to rest, doesn’t it?

Transfers of $680m to the Malaysian prime minister’s bank account were made by the Saudi royal family, Malaysia’s attorney-general said on Tuesday, in a dramatic twist to a financial scandal that has rocked the Southeast Asian nation.

The original thought was that the Prime Minister had nicked the money from a state owned development company.

Well, Phew, eh? Our PM didn’t steal our money he was just bribed to the gills by foreigners.

All better now, yes?

The question is bribed to do what? For that sort of money I would think the Saudis could get the right to hunt, rape and kill any Malaysian girl they wanted. With dogs.

As it turns out, the 1MBD money clearly ended up in his bank account too. So it is not either/or but rather both.

  2. Yeah but Tim…. The charge was that he had nicked it from a state-owned company. Now we know he didn’t and so he’s NOT GUILTY…of that charge.

Now move along please. Nothing to see here

  3. The question is bribed to do what?

According to my Malaysian colleague, that is the very question being asked in Malaysian circles right now. My guess is to back sanctions on Iran, or similar.

Yeah. After all, we know that this could happen anywhere, don’t we Rusty? In fact it would be racism to say that there might be a cultural reason why this might happen in Malaysia, no? There is just as much chance that Cameron is taking the same sort of baksheesh after all, right?

A turning point for me was reading a British colonial official saying that they would have no problems with Muslim groups in India. Because they were all corrupt and would just steal all the money given to them. Of course I thought it terribly racist at the time.

Malaysia played a key role in Pakistan’s and even Iran’s nuclear weapons programmes. All those centrifuges were bought by front companies in KL.

Sanctions on Iran? Can’t be that. For a fraction of that sum the Clintons would oppose it.

  5. “there might be a cultural reason why this might happen in Malaysia, no?”

Malaysia v Singapore, compare and contrast.

It’s becoming a cultural version of East Germany v West Germany.

You know, there are certain things that other people would be able to say and successfully defend themselves against accusations of racism. You’re not one of those people and so, yes, it would be racist…whatever you said.

  7. Tinribs–another stunning strike on behalf of logic.

” I’m bigoted against those I say are bigots I am” says empty metal suit.

SMFS: No one would pay a shite-useless creep like Mr E U Phig-fFooker £680 million in Monopoly money never mind cash.

  8. The surprising bit is the sheer size of the amount. Everyone has his Price.. but $680.000.000 ? Seems a tad…excessive..

  9. Was it not the late Alan Rickman (as Hans Gruber) who observed: “If you steal $600 dollars you can disappear but if you steal $600,000,000 they WILL find you…unless they think you are dead”

Perhaps the Malaysian bloke plans to “blow the roof” next so he can soon be “sitting on beach …earning 20%”.

I fear BiND is probably not far off the mark. The chief reason to destroy Saudi Arabia financially is to stop them bankrolling Islamic supremacist movements round the world.

There must be cheaper ways. This is one of them:

Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad[7][8] conceived of the idea for an international institution of Islamic education in 1982 during a meeting between OIC leaders about the Islamization of knowledge.
    ….
The university operates under the supervision of the Board of Governors, which comprises representatives of the OIC as well as the eight sponsoring governments, namely; Malaysia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Libya, Maldives, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.[7]

Which is to say, Saudi Arabia.

Yes but this is Malaysia. So he didn’t steal it. It was a gift!

    But Gruber was right: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D._B._Cooper

    1. Try as you might, this is not about me. I could be the fervent Nazi Stormtrooper of your dreams and it still would not be about me.

    2. I noticed you tried to deflect answering the questions by answering some other question no one asked. Why not actually answer the question Rusty?
