You don’t need tougher laws matey

South Africa’s ruling party has said it will push for tougher penalties, including jail sentences, for those found guilty of racism or apartheid “glorification” after an estate agent provoked outrage by calling black people “monkeys” on social media.
The ANC said that current legislation under common law was not a sufficient deterrent to would-be racists. It wants a new law modelled on the German criminal offence of Holocaust denial.
“There are still elements who are resisting efforts for racial unity and are working tirelessly to widen the racial rifts and tensions created by apartheid oppression more than 21 years since the advent of our democratic dispensation,” the party’s chief whip said in a statement.
“In the context of our painful past, racial bigotry and apartheid must be considered serious human rights violations that must be punishable by imprisonment.”

No matey, you just don’t need laws about who may say what.

That the bint has been forced into hiding by the shitstorm that descended is all you need.

Or, as we might put it, people should be free to say whatever they want, just as they should be free to bear the consequences of what they say.

  1. Some pages sprang up on Facebook calling for white people to be killed to do away with racism. Mrs Sparrow’s daughter said her mother had been the subject of at least one death threat.

    Which is fine, apparently.

Putting Communists in charge rarely works well.

Apartheid might offend the cogniscenti, but it was the best system possible under the circumstances and the Communist Front group that is running South Africa is determined to prove it.

Remember more Blacks had cars under Apartheid than Soviet citizens had under Communism.

  3. I thought it enlightening when the head of the Zulu’s said recently that things were better under apartheid.

Nobody really tried to challenge that, but things aren’t going to change either.

So this really is the worlds largest of example of symbolism trumping outcomes. Well until we look at Merkel’s refugee strategy,…

  4. Hyeah.. less than three decades, and of course all those centuries of tribal internecine antipathy and strife, the social and economic inequality, and…stuff.. that’s been a part of SA since yonks years magically disappear with the abolition of Apartheid…

Apartheid was a symptom, not a cause..

  5. @SMFS – don’t be a dick.

Apartheid was not the best system available. Is was a crap, fascistic solution to a problem that shouldn’t even exist.

That’s what happens when you put the Dutch in charge.

There was no need to introduce apartheid other than to appease certain boer bigots – it is truly a tragedy that it was, but the lurch to the left combined with a sort of reverse apartheid practiced by the ANC has managed to produce even worse outcomes, at least under apartheid there was besides political oppression some kind of market economy.

Truly a very tragic situation. Should be a paradise. Is a hell hole.

  6. Steve, spot on!

Bearing in mind that the rest of Africa did not have an apartheid system as rigid as South Africa and threw off the colonial shackles long before SA dispensed with apartheid.

The only African country worth living in is Botswana. Why, because the population is predominantly Tswana.

    Where is the alternative?

“That’s what happens when you put the Dutch in charge.”

So there was nothing like Apartheid in Rhodesia? Or Kenya? Come on. The best bits of Apartheid came from the Dutch. The discrimination, the special laws, the pass books, the Homelands, these were British.

Wasn’t too bad. Now is sh!t. On its way back to the Stone Age. Much like Zimbabwe. Britain will not be far behind.

They are all poorer and less developed. White people will not and cannot live with Black people. Especially White people with daughters. There are any number of reasons for that but all over the world, a White person living in a heavily Black neighbourhood is soon going to find himself a statistic.

“The only African country worth living in is Botswana. Why, because the population is predominantly Tswana.”

The population of Somalia is almost entirely Somali. The population of Eritrea is not exactly heavily mixed either.

The King of Botswana was an Anglophile. So White people still run the economy. Black people still herd cattle. And everyone is happy enough.

  9. SMFS – “The population of Somalia is almost entirely Somali. The population of Eritrea is not exactly heavily mixed either.”

That may well be so, but those countries have been poisoned by the Religion of Peace (TM).

  10. Henry – I’ve never been to southern Africa, but I have heard good things about Botswana. Even though her president went to Sandhurst.

  11. Surreptitious Evil

“resisting efforts for racial unity and working tirelessly to widen the racial rifts and tensions created by apartheid oppression”

That’s the raison d’etre of the ANC? The only differences being black is boss and the lurch to commie insanity?

  12. Botswana (population 2 million) is basically a DeBeers company town. Not an option that is available to the rest of Africa.

  13. “So there was nothing like Apartheid in Rhodesia? Or Kenya? Come on. The best bits of Apartheid came from the Dutch. The discrimination, the special laws, the pass books, the Homelands, these were British.”

We didn’t have apartheid in Rhodesia, at least not to the same extent as South Africa. There was territorial segregation right up until the end but the proportion of the land assigned to the blacks was more generous than South Africa. The miscegenation laws were more relaxed and I don’t recall blacks being forced to use separate benches. I remember there being mixed race bars in Salisbury, because after the Ters shot down a civilian airliner in ’78 a gang of angry white youths with guns convinced the black patrons at one to leave.

Also, Cape Colony had a more liberal tradition and attitude to blacks than the ZAR or OFS (although that was before my time).

That said there wasn’t much in Rhodesia a libertarian could admire.

  14. This all dodges the willingness and even eagerness for races to live in their own ‘comnunities’ (or ghettoes).
    Detroit, rotherham and others.

One of the tragedies of Black Middle Class American life is that they are eager to flee the ghetto. They do not want to live among the Black underclass either. They want to live in White neighbourhoods – places which are clean, crime free and the schools are good.

So they pay a lot of money to buy a house in a White area. And then another Black family does. And another. And another. A tipping point is reached at about 10% Black, and White start to flee. The houses are cheaper. The new Blacks are poorer. Before they know it, their nice White neighbourhood is a ghetto ridden with crime – and their houses are worth nothing.

It is a major cause of impoverishment of middle class Blacks. When White people buy a home, they make money.

This is a good example of the process. In 1980 Clayton County was 91% White:

The Whites moved to places like Sandy Springs. And fought a long battle to keep out of the control of Atlanta and its taxes. Now Sandy Springs is 20% African American. And the process begins again.
